What is Advanced Typing Speed Test

The Advanced Typing Speed Test is a browser-based keyboard speed evaluator designed to test your touch-typing velocity and accuracy. By monitoring keystrokes inside a secure, client-side editor, the system measures Words Per Minute (WPM) and tracks keystroke precision in real-time.

Unlike standard text boxes, this workspace tracks cursor placement using absolute coordinates and marks every single character you enter as correct or incorrect. It calculates your metrics over a continuous 60-second typing interval to help you benchmark typing endurance.

How to Use Advanced Typing Speed Test

  1. Start the typing test: Click the Click to Start Challenge button to dismiss the overlay and activate the cursor input.
  2. Begin typing: Focus on the highlighted text deck and type the characters as they appear on your screen.
  3. Observe live status highlights: Correctly typed characters turn white, while errors are highlighted in red and underlined.
  4. Track WPM and Accuracy: Read your live stats (WPM and Accuracy percentage) in the top dashboard as they update dynamically.
  5. Complete the test: Keep typing until the 60-second countdown timer runs out. An alert message will show your final results.
  6. Re-take the test: Dismiss the final alert and click the overlay button to start a new typing challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the WPM (Words Per Minute) score calculated?
A: Speed is calculated using the industry standard formula: `(Total Typed Characters / 5) / Time Spent in Minutes`. This ensures that word length variations do not affect your final score.

Q: Does the test count errors or subtract them from WPM?
A: The calculator tracks total errors separately to compute your accuracy percentage. The WPM score is calculated using correct character inputs, which naturally penalizes errors.

Q: Can I use the Backspace key to correct my typing errors?
A: This advanced test does not allow you to correct errors using Backspace. It is designed to test your raw accuracy, forcing you to maintain rhythm and flow without stopping to fix typos.

Q: Why does the typing cursor stop blinking when I focus elsewhere?
A: The blinking cursor is synchronized with the hidden text box. If you click outside the workspace, the input loses focus. Simply click the workspace to focus and resume typing.
